For months, Daniel ignored the strange bump growing on the back of his head. At first, it felt no larger than a mosquito bite hidden beneath his hairline, something easy to forget during the rush of everyday life. But over time, the swelling became impossible to ignore. It pressed against the collar of his shirts, caused dull headaches during the night, and drew curious stares whenever he got a haircut. Friends joked that it was probably just a harmless cyst, while others whispered terrifying possibilities that only fueled his anxiety. Daniel avoided mirrors and photographs, convincing himself it would disappear on its own. Yet deep down, he knew something was terribly wrong when he began waking up with sharp pain radiating from the base of his skull into his neck and shoulders.
